Sugar-free Applesauce

Baking for a sugar-free lifestyle can be even easier when you have homemade applesauce on hand. Maina likes to bake Oatmeal Cookies and Carrot Cake with this naturally delicious sugar replacement, so its helpful to have lots on hand.Happy Healthy Snacking

Bonus: Its freezable for 6 months!

And just a couple more reasons to love this good for the whole family snack: its great on toast, on pancakes, in oatmeal, and an interesting topper to grilled cheese. Believe it!

~Homemade (sugar-free) Applesauce~

(yields 2- 16oz jars)

  • 8 apples
  • 3 Tbls honey
  • 1 Tbl apple pie spice
  • 1 c water
  • juice 1 large lemon

FullSizeRender 2Core apples, no need to peel. In a 3 qt or larger pot bring all ingredients to full boil. Reduce heat to med/low and simmer 2-3 hours. Remove pot from burner and rough mash. I like to use a potato masher for this step. Return to simmer till apples have reduced and desired consistency is reached.

FullSizeRender 3Allow applesauce to cool then use an immersion blender to make your applesauce smoother. Allowing applesauce to cool is crucial! Plastic immersion blenders warp terribly when food is too hot…ooops!

Will keep in fridge a week if it lasts that long. Happy Cooking!

Namasté,
